Education & Training
Dr. Southard completed her undergraduate education at University of Virginia (UVA) in Charlottesville, Virginia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, a Specialization in Biochemistry with Distinction, and a minor in Spanish Linguistics. While at UVA she worked in a biochemistry lab and a hematology/oncology bone marrow lab and determined that her true passion was in the medical field.
She attended medical school at the Edward Via Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, Virginia and graduated with Honors and a 4.0 GPA! She also received the Distinguished Student Scholar Award in Surgery. She then completed her five-year General Surgery residency at Plaza Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas. During that time, she served as a Chief Surgery Resident and received the honor of Surgery Resident of the Year.
Dr. Southard continued her training and completed a three-year Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at Detroit Medical Center/Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. She subsequently served on faculty at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine in East Lansing, Michigan as an Assistant Professor of Surgery and a practicing Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon for four years. In 2018, she earned the top score of her cohort on the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Board exam. In both 2019 and 2020, she was nominated and ranked in the top 3 plastic surgeons for Best Cosmetic Surgeon in “The Top of the Town” in the Lansing City Pulse magazine. Although she had a growing and successful practice in Michigan, she made the decision to return to Texas to be closer to family, and we’re excited that she is back!
In her free time, Dr. Southard enjoys running, high-intensity interval training workouts, playing the piano and the cello, traveling, medical mission work, and spending time with family and friends.
